FUTURE NO.1? KEVIN/MARCUS RACE TO 2ND SUPERSERIES TITLE OF 2016
Indonesia’s Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon only needed 33 minutes in Sunday’s rematch of the India Open final to edge compatriots Pratama/Suwardi, winning the Australian Open in Sydney, which is already their second Superseries title of the year.
The India Open and Australian Open wins are Kevin/Marcus’s first and second Superseries victory as a team. Marcus has previously lifted the trophy in Paris with Kido.
The victory puts the budding Indonesian pair, currently ranked no.12 in the world, the first to notch up two Superseries men's doubles titles in the 2016 season. Out of the six Superseries men’s doubles events already played this year, #TeamVICTOR won four of them, including the Superseries Premier level triumphs by Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang at Malaysia Open and Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong at Indonesia Open.
Next-generation Korean singles players Jeon Hyeok Jin also had a breakthrough week in Sydney, reaching his first career major final but lost in three games to Danish veteran Vittinghus, taking home a silver medal.
